Hometown Contractors is an Approved My Safe Florida Home Contractor

Is your home ready for hurricane season? The My Safe Florida Home program provides homeowners with access to state-approved inspections to identify damage-prone areas of the home. With this information, the homeowner can make improvements that will help protect their home from damage related to hurricane-force winds and rains. State grants helps to cover the cost of these remodels, so that homeowners have greater access to the upgrades that their home needs.

At Hometown Contractors, we are proud to be one of the few home remodeling companies in Florida that are approved to conduct work for the My Safe Florida Home program. The process begins by contacting us for a professional home inspection, then steps can be taken toward receiving program approval.

Frequently Asked Questions about the My Safe Florida Home Program

My Safe Florida Home Program

In 2022, the Florida Legislature passed the “My Safe Florida Home” program. The goal of the Program is to financially assist homeowners whose homes are susceptible to storm damage. The Program provides qualified homeowners with free wind mitigation home inspections and grants for storm-hardening construction.

Construction costs will only be covered once a grant is approved. Currently, only homeowners who have been approved by the Program can begin construction.

Owners of a single-family home, site-built home, residential home, or townhouse are eligible to apply for a free hurricane mitigation inspection.

If you are interested in requesting a free home mitigation inspection, you can fill out the virtual form provided on the “My Safe Florida Home” website.

Grants are based on current funding available. The Department of Financial Services (DFS) has been approved to provide up to $10,000 in costs to approved homeowners, including low-income homeowners. For every $1 a homeowner provides, the Program will provide $2.

No, you must use a licensed inspector assigned by the Program. After you have been approved for a free inspection, a verified inspector will be assigned to your home.

You can choose your own contractor, but they must be pre-approved by the DFS. Once your application has been approved, the DFS will send you a list of contractors you can choose from.
